We've all been there at one point in our lives where we come to a stagnant stop and just think.... Well what's next?
In the time that we currently live in, there is an overload of resources and information that the possible outcomes of an individual's life aren't as linear and limited as they used to be. There is a boom of start-ups and entrepreneurs who are creating new avenues to pursue careers, and streams are bursting through the cracks of rocks providing opportunity where there was once drought. Perhaps it's not about careers, I know there's much pressure surrounding what are you going to do to make a living, provide for yourself and build your future, maybe the unknown is in personal development. As we get older, we evolve and when you look back on your life, I'm sure you can see the areas where your character and attitude have matured as you've implemented better habits and strategies to become a better version of yourself.
Who am I?
What is my purpose?
These questions plague the minds of many individuals, because we live in a society that wants us to be anything but ourselves. It is as though your identity is left to be a box that is presented to you, but it is locked, and the key is nowhere to be found so you seek other methods of trying to find the answer, that is otherwise hidden in that box. Well the key is in the possession of the master who will hand them over to the intended individual, when they have come to a point of wanting to discover what lies within, and they won't seek answers from anyone other source. Who is this master? Hmm is it Yoda? Is it an old sage who lives in a remote area? Is it a boss? Mum? No, none of these individuals including the fictional have the key, but I know someone who does and that is God. Seated in his throne in heaven, He is the master who gifted you with the box that has all you need to accomplish on this earth, and help you become the person you were destined to be. How does one come into possession of the key? Seek Him.
Luke 11:9 And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
Isaiah 55:6 Seek the Lord while you can find Him. Call on Him now while He is near.
God has all the answers you need, but I must present you with a caution that comes along with the package. A result of seeking God for answers, is embracing the unknown, this builds our trust and dependence on God because He knows the plan for our lives, and He wants us to trust Him enough to relinquish control and follow with faith the journey He has set for us.
Now is it enjoyable being in the unknown? Not always, sometimes it's frustrating and we can be tempted to try and make our own way. But here's a suggestion for you, the 'embrace' means that you welcome this feeling and predicament with open arms, open heart and gratitude. Look to this season with excitement because your Father who cares for you deeply and has the best of intentions for you, has some surprises up his sleeve for what's about to come. Now some people are not fans of surprises, but I can assure you that what comes from God is for your good, the result may be having to go through something that you don't enjoy or letting go of what you desired to hold on to, we are not after all exempt from suffering in this life. However, there are blessings in all that you go through, and lessons to be learned which help better you and mould you into the vision of who God created you to be. God has your life in His hands, that's the safest place you can ever be! Rest assured in that safety, and allow yourself to trust and be in anticipation of what God is going to show you, going to teach you, going to do next with you.
In the meantime, take advantage of this dependence that you have on God, maybe this isn't how your communication with Him usually goes, sometimes we pray less frequently during our week or worship only when Sunday comes. Use this to further your intimacy with God, go to deeper places with Him, talk to Him daily about anything, have moments of praise and worship during your day, sit in the stillness of gratitude, read the word more and feed your spirit. We can never get enough of God, there's always going to be more of a hunger the more time you spend with and get closer to Him and that is a beautiful thing.
I want to leave you with this encouragement of embracing the unknown, whatever that means in your life, God has got you, trust Him, draw nearer to Him and I promise that soon you will see what He has got next for you. Take heed to what He wants to teach you during this time and don't compare your life to anyone else's, that robs you what God might be trying to show and teach you. I hope that you are blessed and remember that God is in control.
